FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Plain answers about restricted communication, the record, exports, safety and privacy.

About Modus

Is Modus a co-parenting app?

Modus is a parenting communication app, but it is not designed as a cheerful shared-family organiser. It is designed for restricted, high-conflict or court-relevant parenting communication where records need to be preserved clearly.

Who is Modus for?

Modus is for adults managing parenting communication in situations involving conflict, legal restrictions, parenting orders, intervention orders, safety notices or documented communication boundaries.

Can children use Modus?

No. Modus is for adults only. Children may be recorded in settings so messages can be tagged and organised, but children are not intended users and should not create accounts.

Can the other parent invite extra people?

No. The MVP only allows two adult users in one communication space.

The record

Can messages be edited?

No. Sent messages are designed to be permanent and cannot be edited by either party.

Can messages be deleted?

No. Sent messages are designed to remain part of the record and cannot be deleted by either party.

Why does Modus prevent editing and deletion?

In restricted or court-relevant communication, the record matters. Editing or deletion can create disputes about what was said, when it was said and what context existed. Modus is designed to keep the communication history intact.

Does Modus decide whether someone has breached a court order?

No. Modus does not make legal findings. It can flag possible issues based on settings, rules or manual user flags, but only a court or appropriate legal authority can determine legal consequences.

What does “possible breach” mean?

“Possible breach” means a message may relate to a communication rule, restriction or user-flagged concern. It is a record label, not a legal conclusion.

Court-ready exports

What are court-ready exports?

Court-ready exports are structured reports designed to support legal review, affidavits, annexures, chronologies and record keeping. They can include message history, warning summaries, possible breach summaries, manual flags, attachment indexes and export verification details.

Does Modus guarantee my export will be accepted by a court?

No. Court requirements vary. Modus exports are designed to be organised, searchable and annexure-friendly, but users should obtain legal advice about admissibility, relevance and filing requirements.

Can I export only a date range?

Yes. Modus is designed to export records by date range.

Why not include every photo inside the PDF?

Large image-heavy PDFs can become difficult to open, email, print or file. Modus is designed to use an attachment index by default, with optional attachment bundles where needed.

Can I upload documents?

Yes. Modus is designed to support photos and documents, stored privately and linked to message or legal context records.

Can lawyers access Modus directly?

Not in the MVP. Future versions may support read-only lawyer or support worker access. Initially, users can generate exports for legal review.

Safety

Can Modus help with family violence matters?

Modus is designed to support restricted and sensitive communication contexts, including family violence related matters. It is not an emergency service and does not replace legal advice, police, specialist family violence services or safety planning.

What should I do if I am in immediate danger?

Contact emergency services immediately. Modus is not monitored as an emergency response service.

Can Modus replace a lawyer?

No. Modus does not provide legal advice and is not a substitute for a lawyer.

Can Modus replace police or emergency services?

No. Modus is not an emergency service.

Privacy and data

How does Modus handle security?

Modus is designed around authentication, private communication spaces, private attachment storage, expiring invite links, no public message URLs, audit events and clear retention policies.

Is message content used for advertising?

No. Modus does not use message content for advertising or behavioural profiling.

Does Modus sell message data?

No. Modus does not sell message data.

Will Modus train AI on my messages?

No AI training on message content occurs without explicit separate consent. The MVP uses rule-based warnings rather than AI-generated advice.

Can I request account deletion?

Yes. Modus provides an account deletion request pathway. Some data may need to be retained where required by law, court order, safety obligations, audit integrity or legitimate record keeping. The Data Retention Policy explains this clearly.

Can I deactivate instead of delete?

Yes. Modus supports account deactivation requests where appropriate, especially where records need to remain intact.

Platform

Will Modus be on Apple and Android?

Modus is planned as a progressive web app first. Native Apple and Android apps may follow once the product, security, privacy, reporting and compliance foundations are ready.

What is the Founding Family Plan?

The Founding Family Plan is a launch offer at $99 per year per family matter. It includes restricted messaging, audit history, timestamps, warning and breach summaries, document uploads, search, and court-ready PDF exports. Both parties can use the same record without being charged separately. A monthly option is also available. See our subscription page for details.
